MusicPosted by admin Sat, February 21, 2009 02:03:55Back from the NME Tour tonight and what a show.
4 great bands rocked it tonight at the Cambridge Corn Exchange.
First up Florence and the Machine. First time I heard this band's music and highly impressed. Female lead vocals were great, and she had lots of energy and stage presence. She even crowd surfed and went into the crowd several times. Certainly will check their music out.
Next up the band I was looking forward to seeing the most and I had already caught them once when they suprised me during their tour with Glasvegas last year. Of course since then White Lies debut album has reached the top of the charts and they are doing very well. Again, they were brilliant.
3rd on was Friendly Fires. Again I never heard this band's music before so I was pleasantly suprised with some of the headbanging and ensued when they came on. Will be checking out their music too.
Last on stage were Glasvegas. They got the best reaction from the crowd as you'd expect with the rip-roaring anthems. They were fantastic as usual. Still listening to their album right now.
FilmPosted by admin Sat, February 21, 2009 01:46:50It's a question asked by many martial arts fans - who would win in a fight between 2 legendary martial artists Jet Li and Jackie Chan. Both of them have shown us their skills in many a movie before, and they both have very contrasting styles.
On two previous occasions there were oppotunities for a Jet Li and Jackie Chan collaboration but it never happened until now with the Forbidden Kingdom.
I watched the movie last night and I found it very enjoyable. It was action packed with a great dual between the two forementioned masters and the fight choreography was up there with the best of Woo Ping's other stuff. There is some vey lush scenery, good characterisation, and some humour executed to perfection.
Jackie and Jet are as good as each other, you can't pick a winner here and they are as watchable as ever. There are two very beautiful females played by two of Chinas rising stars. Special mention must also go to Michael Angarano for doing a good lead job, must have been very challenging being surrounded by all them Chinese, and having to take on such a physical role.
Anyways, all in all very enjoyable movie to watch.
TravelPosted by admin Mon, February 02, 2009 23:30:15Was down London over the weekend for the Chinese New Year celebrations. It was so busy, could hardly move around China Town, expecially anywhere near the Dragon dance.
Some pictures from my IPhone.
CarsPosted by admin Fri, January 30, 2009 18:17:26New alloys formy Golf. From Fox Racing:

Set of 18"s. They do make the car look a lot better.

Saw Sweeney Todd on DVD. I found the first 20 mins of this film a little difficult at first. There are a fair few songs at the start that you hear for the first time and they are not that easy on the ear. I was close to switching it off.
However, stick with it and you will be rewarded with a great movie. The acting from all the cast is brilliant and the production is first class. It's not a film for the faint hearted as there is a lot of gore and the setting is very dark. The songs start to grow on you as you hear the tunes with different lyrics throughout the film. In the end it gets a 5/5 because it deserves it.
MusicPosted by admin Sun, November 30, 2008 23:57:38Just this moment returned from a Glasvegas gig at the Cambridge Junction and it was well worth it. I went to see Glasvegas who I think are brilliant. Love their debut album and have been listening to it loads.
As usual there were the supporting acts that do their thing on stage before the main event. The first act was a band headed by a lead female. While she was pretty to look at and sometimes the music was good, the lead vocal was just to weak for a live performance. I could not hear a word in any of the verses. Oh well, didn't catch their name either.

The 2nd act though were absolutely brilliant. For songs I was hearing for the first time, they were making an instant impact. The band is a new up and coming band and they are called White Lies. There songs were in the vein of The Editors, The Killers, or The Bravery. Uptempo rock anthems with mellodramatic lyrics. Their debut album 'To Lose My Life' arrives in the new year on 19th January and I will definitely be keeping an eye out for it. Good thing is they are giving away a free download of a track 'Unfinished Business' from their album. Will be downloading that in just a tick. The lead singer has a great voice, and these guys are really good live, they could well have headlined this gig they were that good. Everyone was simply surprised as they were so competent it felt like they were pros doing it for years. They are currently touring with Glasvegas.
On to the main event, and they certainly delivered on the tracks they performed. They sang most of their debut album but I think there were some tracks missing most noticeably 'Its my cheating heart that makes me cry', which is suprising as that's a big tune. There were a couple of new tunes thrown in, one was called 'Fuck yeah'?. Was not that well received. These guys are popular as the venue was packed, most busy I've seen it.
Overall, great night out, and I discovered a new band who were brilliant live. Will be very interested to see how well they do. Both Glasvegas and White Lies are due back in Cambridge for the NME awards tour next year, so I might have to get tickets for that.
MusicPosted by admin Sat, November 08, 2008 17:07:06Went to see One Night Only at the Junction. It was alright, everthing you'd expect as they sang all their hits and most of their first album. There were even a few new tracks in there.

If anything though the colourful lights were a bit much at times, it was all a bit bright. There were no use of smoke either which might have helped a bit. The atmosphere was mainly good, but he did have to work quite hard to get the crowd jumping though. I guess the songs, while great, don't make you really wanna lose yourself.
It was an enjoyable evening.
TechnologyPosted by admin Sat, November 08, 2008 16:46:51Just got myself an Apple iPhone 3G 16GB Black version.
Wow, it's an amazing gadget. Not just a phone at all. I've had some time with it but have not fully explored it so far.
A phone, an Ipod Touch, and Internet device, and a media player and so much more. Everything works so well, the screen is sublime and video and images come across beautifully. It also has speakers, which is something my Ipod Classic does not have, so I can listen without headphones as well.
The battery seems to be good also, although I have had to charge it most days because I keep playing with it so much, and I think the 3G expecially uses quite a lot of battery.
Speaking of 3G, on the O2 network, i get unlimited browsing. The 3G is ok, sometimes it is a bit slow. You can also connect to wi fi network.
The user interface is brilliant. Scrolling up and down, and side to side by just moving your finger in that direction. Move your fingers together like a pinch action to zoom in, and the opposite motion to zoom out.
Typing on the on-screen keyboard is pleasantly easy and accurate. Turn the phone on it's side to enlarge the keyboard.
The phone works great and is worth the £159 I paid for it. Comes with impressive packaging too.
And then there's the applications which so far are great, Photos, Maps, Weather, Google Earth, Email, all very handy.
Positives:
- Touch screen is awesomely responsive and beautiful.
- Build and packaging is first class, nothing else on the market i've seen comes close.
- Surfing the Internet is very good.
- Big screen, makes typing SMS a breeze.
- Accelerometer for tilt action.
- Great aplications.
Negatives are:
- 2 megapixel camera.
- Limited memory, but 16GB is plenty.
